Although it's arguably the standard kind of shot anyone would attempt in an autumnal woody area, what's stunning is the apparent symmetry - the lighting ground is in the exact middle of the picture, topping the perspective "triangle" of the leafy path. Above this midpoint a band of more or less bright things ending in the slightly obscured sky. On left and right, cathedralesque black trees.

I also like: The lightest part in the middle happens to have a rough "house" form, green-and-gingerbread-coloured, so I immediately associated Hänsel & Gretel, their first sight of the witch's house. Except here the witch seems to be someone truly benevolent.

What bothers my aesthetic sense somewhat is the sometimes too blotchy and many-hued colouring among the leaves and the lighted part. Also here and there "lit up" too glowingly within the trees' blackness. I know that this is part of the magic of a favourite time of year - autumn! - but for this particular photo, with its clean lines and the fairy-tale association, I would have preferred a more dreamy homogenuity (i.e. less contrast-happy film?).

All in all, as always for this Canadian deviant: Well done!
